CINAHL changing from OVID platform to EBSCOHost

On Wednesday 1st August 2007, Library access to the CINAHL database will no longer be via the OVID platform. The database will migrate to the EBSCOHost platform.

This is due to circumstances beyond our control. EBSCO have bought CINAHL and have decided not to make it available via any other platform, now or in the future.

Please do ask if you have any questions.

New, improved A-Z list of e-journals - try it out!

The Library has just launched a new, improved A-Z list of e-journals. You can use this to search for journal titles, abbreviated journal titles, words in title and publisher. You can also search for journal titles in specific subject areas, such as, Business, Economy & Management; Information Technology; and Health Sciences (including a section on Public Health).

If you want to go straight to a journal article, search for the journal and then type in the Year, Volume, Issue and Start page details and click the GO icon.

You will need to login to EZproxy with your Managed Windows Service (MWS) username and password to get access.

As always, please don't forget to abide by our acceptable use guidelines for e-journals.

Let us know what you think!

Self-registration for MWS Now working Again

The self-registration system for the Managed Windows Service (MWS) is now working again. This problem was caused by an unexpected power outage in Computing Services at the University of Liverpool.

Apologies for any inconvenience this has caused anyone.

University Computing Services affected by Campus Power Outage

Please see this announcement from the University Computing Services Department. This power outage affected login to the Managed Windows Service (MWS) and self-registration. The MWS is working now, but self-registration is still not working. I will update the blog when I hear more.

"Last night (Tuesday 24th July) there was a major campus power outage that affected the CSD building on Brownlow Hill. All CSD services were affected and were unavailable from 8:30pm (UK time) Tuesday night. As of 8am (UK time) today (Wednesday) access to the MWS, Exchange (e-mail/diary) and your M-drive appears to be fine. Currently there is no access to all administration databases - it is hoped that these will be available by lunch time. If services that you require are unavailable, please be patient while CSD staff strive to restore a full working service as quickly as possible."

Problem with login to Library at weekend - now resolved

Unfortunately there was a problem over the weekend with some of the computing services at the University. One of the results of this was that for some time no one could login to EZproxy to access the Library from off campus. This problem was resolved early on Monday morning by the University Computing Services and everyone should be able to login again now.

The University apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Need help finding information? Try the new ILR!

Do you need help with any of the following:

  • Finding information
  • Planning searches
  • Using the Online Library
  • Effective internet searching
  • Evaluating information
  • Referencing correctly
If the answer is 'yes' then try out the Information Literacy Resource (ILR) - a self study resource from the Library designed to help students with finding, evaluating and organising information for their research.

There is a NEW ILR for MPH students and an UPDATED version of the ILR for MBA and MSc students.

The ILR can be found in the:

Embanet MBA Area - MBA Information Literacy folder
Embanet MSc Area - MSc Information Literacy folder
Embanet MPH Area - MPH Information Literacy folder

The ILR is divided into seven units - for each, there is a lecture, an assignment and answers. Students are strongly recommended to work through the ILR as early as possible in their programme.

If you have any questions about this, or other Library matters, please contact Stephanie Allen, the Online Librarian.

Health Services Management Research
Journal of Medical Screening
Menopause International (was Journal of the British Menopause Society)
Phlebology

We already subscribe to the other 6 RSM Press journals.

Catalogue records have been created, and our SFX knowledgebase (i.e. 'find it @ liverpool') has been updated.

Please leave a comment telling us which titles you find useful, or if you would like us to continue to have access to all RSM Press titles.
