Need an Introduction to the Library but Only Have a Few Minutes to Spare?

Are you keen to find out what the Library can offer, but short of time and don't know where to start? Is this you? If the answer is "yes" then the Library Induction presentation could be the solution.

The Library Induction is a short presentation that is designed to introduce you to the Library service. It tells you how to register for a username and password, explains what resources are available in your subject area, and more. It also tells you who to contact if you have a question. Why not take a look? It will only take a few minutes.

Library Service Arrrangements over Christmas and New Year

The Library enquiry service will close at 13:00 pm (UK time) on Friday 22nd December and will open again on Tuesday 2nd January 2007 at 9:00 am (UK time). The University Computing Services Helpdesk will close at 12:30 pm (UK time) on Friday 22nd December and will open again as normal on Tuesday 2nd January 2007 08.30am.

All Library electronic resources should be available over this period as normal, but users should be aware that services will be ‘at risk' from 12:30pm on Friday, 22nd December until Tuesday 2nd January 2007. This means that if any service fails and does not automatically restore, no action will be taken to re-instate it until 8:00am on Tuesday 2nd January.

The University Library and the Computing Services Department take this opportunity to send all students and staff of the University seasonal greetings for Christmas and the New Year.

Management Database Update

Many of you will know by now that the Library has a subscription to EBSCO's Business Source Premier (BSP). This is an excellent source which provides access to the full text for more than 8,800 journals (including Harvard Business Review), as well as market research reports, industry reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses. It does mean, however, that our subscription to ABI/INFORM Select will cease by the end of this year. EBSCO's BSP is a superior product with a far wider coverage and considerable overlap with the titles available on ABI/INFORM Select. So if you have previously used the ABI/INFORM Select database, please try out Business Source Premier. There is a short guide designed to show users how to perform a search on the database. Please contact Stephanie Allen, Online Librarian if you have any questions about this: Online_Librarian@embanet.com.

Secret Question and Answer

Since September 2005, anyone registering for a University of Liverpool Managed Windows Service (MWS) username and email account is asked to set a secret question and answer. This can be used to verify your identity with the Computing Services Helpdesk in cases such as a forgotten MWS password. If you have not previously set a secret question or wish to change the one you did set, please go to: http://liv.ac.uk/mwssecretquestion. Access to this page requires your Managed Windows Service (MWS) username & password.

Please contact the University Computing Services Helpdesk if you have any questions about this: helpdesk@liverpool.ac.uk
