Easter is approaching and so please note that although the Online Library e-resources should be available as normal, the Online Librarian enquiry service and the University Computing Services Helpdesk will not be available over the Easter period: Friday 21st March - Monday 24th March (inclusive). Library now available this weekend but 'at risk'; University portal not available

Following on from my previous post about the Library not being available this weekend, the University Computing Services have now advised that the Library system should be available, but 'at risk'. The University email service should also be available, but 'at risk'. However, the University portal will not be available so users will need to access the Online Library through the Online Library web site.

Please note that the MWS and University Email Service will be unavailable from 17:00 until 19:00 (UK time) on Friday 7th March in preparation for the outage. There will be a further outage on Sunday evening whilst power is being restored. CSD estimate that the MWS and University Email Services will be unavailable between 18:00 and 19:00 (UK time) on Sunday 9th March.

CSD apologise for any inconvenience that undertaking this essential work will cause and expect all services to be fully operational on Monday 10th March.

Essential work means University Library & portal unavailable Fri 7th March 16.30 (UK time) to Mon 10th March

Please can I draw attention to this message from the University Computing Services as it will have an impact on access to the Library e-resources and the University portal this weekend:

The University Computing Services regrets that in order to carry out essential remedial work to the electrical power distribution system in the main University computer suite it will be necessary to close many services this weekend (March 8th - 9th). It is intended that most services will close at 16:30 (UK time) on Friday March 7th and will restart on the morning of Monday 10th March.

The following services will NOT be available:

* the Library system (and catalogue)
* the University portal
* Dialup and Virtual Private Network (vpn) services
* the University Web server
* announcement system

During this period the following services WILL be available (but should be considered "at risk"):

* the Managed Windows Service (MWS) with access to the M: drive
* email
* the Internet
* Windows Terminal Service (WTS)

We apologise for any inconvenience that undertaking this essential work will cause.

We expect all services to be fully operational on Monday 10th March.
