American National Biography (ANB) Now Available

Following a successful trial at the end of 2006, the Library is delighted to announce that we have started a subscription to the American National Biography (ANB) online. It contains biographies of more than 17,400 men and women from all walks of life, whose lives have shaped the US nation. We already subscribe to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (DNB) online.

To access ANB go to either the Management collections page, the Computing collections page or the Public Health collections page and you will find it listed under the 'General Reference Collections'. To get access, you must login to EZprozy with your Managed Windows Service (MWS) username and password before you connect to the database.

Library Subscription to ABI/INFORM Select Cancelled - Replaced by 'Bigger and Better' Business Source Premier

Please be aware that the Library have now cancelled our subscription to ABI/INFORM Select, and access has now been withdrawn. We have replaced it with Business Source Premier (BSP) which is a far larger and more expensive product! It contains full-text access to more than 8,000 journals, including the Harvard Business Review. Additional full text, non-journal content includes market research reports, industry reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses.

You can access Business Source Premier from the Management Collections page. Login to Athens and then connect to the database. There is a short guide to using Business Source Premier which is designed to introduce you to searching the database.

Please ask the Online Librarian, Stephanie Allen, if you have any questions about this.

Looking for help with your research? Try the Information Literacy Resource

The Information Literacy Resource is a self study resource from the Library designed to help students with finding, evaluating and organising information for their research. Because it is a self study package, it can be taken at a pace that fits in with your lifestyle.

All students are advised to complete this self study resource before moving into their Dissertation. However, the sooner you start, the quicker you will gain the vital information skills necessary to excel in your studies.

There are seven units:

Unit 1: Defining your information need and understanding the sources available
Unit 2: Planning and constructing an effective search strategy
Unit 3: Using the Online Library resources to find information
Unit 4: Finding reliable, quality information using the Internet
Unit 5: Comparing and evaluating information from different sources
Unit 6: Finding information sources not available from the Online Library
Unit 7: Using the Harvard system to reference correctly and avoid plagiarism

You will find the resource located in the:

Embanet MBA Area - MBA Information Literacy folder

and the

Embanet MSc Area - MSc Information Literacy folder
