Scopus Working Again

Just to let you all know that the Library database Scopus is working again after a short break in the service. Scopus is a multidisciplinary database covering a range of subject areas, including business, management, public health, computing and clinical research administration - so it will be of interest to all students and staff. Resolved: Situation with recent Scopus records

Scopus has announced that the situation with recently-loaded Scopus records containing incorrect and incomplete information has been resolved. As part of their archiving initiative of loading pre-1996 articles to enrich Scopus content, a large number of articles of Elsevier journals were loaded erroneously into Scopus. A solution to resolve this issue was immediately installed. Since the end of last week, all incomplete records have been removed. Scopus has resumed the archive project to load all Elsevier journals back to Volume 1, Issue 1, reaching back to 1823. This will be finalised before July 2008.

Scopus - problem with recently added records

In the past two weeks, as part of an initiative to load pre-1996 articles to enrich Scopus content, a large number of articles from Elsevier journals were loaded erroneously into Scopus with incorrect publication year and incomplete source title information.

As a result of this, an incorrect publishing year of 2007 and 2008 has been assigned to these records and only limited source information is available, namely journal title and page numbers. Because of the incomplete information, SFX (find it @ liverpool) links, and the mechanism that is used to remove duplicate articles hasn't worked properly either. As a consequence, the records are incorrectly appearing in search alerts as well.

A solution to resolve this issue is already in place and Scopus expect the records with the incorrect information to be removed from Scopus by the end of next week.

More Library Resources Change to EZproxy Login

'Single sign-on' access to most Library e-resources off-campus moves one step closer today. As part of the switch to EZproxy authentication for most Athens authenticated Library resources the following databases have also now been changed to EZproxy authentication:

• Emerald Fulltext
• Cambridge Journals Online
• JSTOR
• ScienceDirect
• Scopus

This should make access to content easier as there will no longer be the need to click on an Athens login link once in the resource. This often caused confusion and meant that users experienced difficulties viewing the full text of articles.

As mentioned earlier today, Business Source Premier has already been switched to EZproxy login.

Scopus Downtime Saturday 14th April

ScienceDirect and Scopus downtime Saturday March 3rd

Please be advised that maintenance has been scheduled on the ScienceDirect and Scopus platforms for Saturday March 3rd, 2007 resulting in some system downtime. It is anticipated that ScienceDirect will be unavailable for approximately 9 hours, starting at 11:30 AM UK time (06:30 AM EST).
